What users are saying

Reason I upgraded to 2.0 ★★★★★ by xFREDx
I am a PocketMoney customer for over 6 months now and can’t tell you how GREAT of an App this is. Definitely worth the 10.00 fee, I originally payed 30.00 for it and payed again for this useful application. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who cares about their finances.
the best ★★★★★ by fyz10n
Hands down, this is the best personal finance application you can buy. It is very much well worth the $10 price tag. Well done.
Great expense tracker ★★★★★ by Gonad the barbarian
This app is worth every penny. I tried all sorts of other finance apps (iXpenseit, spend, simplecash, etc) and found that this one is the most intuitive, most robust expense tracker out there. It is a surprisingly mature app, as the developer has refactored it multiple times as different handheld platforms came and went. I heartily recommend the full version even if it is slightly more expensive than other full version financial apps. None of the others measure up to this standard.
4.5 stars – works great. I’ve tried them all ★★★★★ by JohnJ80
Pocketmoney works very well. Especially nice if you use MPG (car expenses) and CheckPlease (free, tip calculator) since they move their data to PocketMoney for the transaction – one entry is nice. The sync works very well. You transfer your transactions very quickly to the desktop and them import them. I used to use PocketQuicken on a Palm Treo — this is a s good or better. I used PocketMoney on the Newton more than a decade ago – and it’s still great.

PocketMoney 3.0.2 now available for iPhone/iPod Touch

February 4th, 2010

PocketMoney 3.0.2 is now on AppStore.

Buy PocketMoney $4.99.

Here is the full bug fix and additions list:

• Added “Classic UI” option to Display Options so users can switch back to 2.4 style colors, checkboxes, row heights, and fonts without buying Themes.
• Forum users lobbied for changing (>) to a (+) and having the (+) button on the Account Balances screen be a quick way to enter a new transaction. To edit/view the Account Info you must now tap Edit and select the account to view its info.
• Added a tip that appears in the summary graphs location for the PocketMoney Add-Ons. It only appears once if you haven’t purchased any add-ons, and tapping it takes you to the PocketMoney Add-Ons purchase screen so that users will know where to find the add-ons purchase screen. After you tap it once it won’t appear again.

• Fixed end date for custom budget periods
• Fixed: Setting Overdraft account to itself will not cause overdraft transfers to be created – money will just be withdrawn from account just as if Overdraft account was left blank/set to None.
• Fixed: Overdraft account was wrongly basing balance on amount after transaction is saved.
• Fixed memory leaks (should help users on older iPhones/iPod Touches who were experiencing slow downs)
• Fixed: transferring money of differing currencies between accounts.
• Fixed: Balance transfer from CHF to EUR, no longer results in EUR to EUR on target account
• Added a segment selector control on Exchange Rate Worksheet so user can control what field is being changed.
• Category lists shows full category:subcategory instead of just subcategory
• Fixed: Filters are reset after viewing an expense category via budgets.
• Fixed: Some transactions were missing when drilling down into [Unfiled] categories from reports.
• Fixed: Pie chart in landscape view shortened so you can see a full row.
• Fixed bug related to reordering of accounts after being imported from QIF file (user can change info on the Account Info page without the account moving to the end of the account list)
• Fixed crash during autocomplete when old payee shorter than auto matched payee
• Fixed: Edit accounts screen no longer lists Custom items (All Transactions, Filters, Repeating Transactions)
• Fixed: Custom keyboard click garbled and increasing in volume fixed.
• Added: Expand/Collapse of Account Types groups with touch of entire Title Row not just up/down arrows
• Fixed: Transaction type withdrawal not being recognized as custom filter
• Fixed: Recurring transactions remove any photo receipt attached to them
• Fixed: last saved date for new transactions not working for auto complete payees since the autocompletes sets date to today
• Fixed: crashes when tapping Accounts in filters if only one account exists.

Where did Red Withdrawals go in PocketMoney 3.0?

January 15th, 2010

I’ve gotten the question where did red withdrawals from several users so I thought I’d explain the reasoning behind removing them.

The reasoning withdrawals are black and deposits green is that items displayed in red are meant to be warnings to the user that something is going wrong. When you exceed your budget amount the bar is red. Whenever your account is over the limit or falls below the minimum balance the running balance and overall balance is displayed in red. Red is used sparingly, and as a warning. If you see red then something needs correcting.

I picked green for deposits because users typically have fewer deposits than withdrawals so the green does stick out among the black withdrawals if you are scrolling your transaction log looking for deposits.

PocketMoney 3.0 bugs or major gripes

December 30th, 2009

Here are the list of bugs and gripes that I’m hearing the most of between 2.4.1 and 3.0. I’ll update the post to include that status of the issue, and plan on getting most of these fixed for a 3.0.1 submission to Apple tomorrow.

1. Budget view by Year isn’t working. (fixed for 3.0.1)

2. CHF currency not saving the Amounts. Temporary workaround is to enter the transaction amount on the “Exchange Rate Screen” (even if no currency conversion is needed). (fixed for 3.0.1)

3. Slowness when launching. (fixed for 3.0.1)

4. Restore checkboxes instead of using binder rings.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)

5. QIF files not importing. (fixed for 3.0.1) (Work around is to go into PM Prefs > Managed Lists > Add new items to lists set to OFF, and import the QIF file)

6. Red for withdrawal amounts and Black for deposits.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)

7. CSV files not exporting or emailing. (fixed for 3.0.1)

8. The Google Pie Chart has been replaced with the new in app Pie chart and was not supposed to be part of the Summary Charts package for Net Worth, Cash Flow and Account wide Pie and Bar chart reports, but still be part of the base PocketMoney package. (fixed in 3.0.1)

9. Budget expenses not appearing  on the 31st of the month for  monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, and half-year periods. (fixed for 3.0.1)

10. Shorter rows so  more data fits on the screen.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)

This is not a Test User account.

December 29th, 2009

When I click the buy button for an In-App Purchase and input password, the system shows this window message.

This has to do with a jailbroken iPhone w/ AppSync installed.

Workaround:

1. Backup Pocketmoney with SyncDocs.
2. Uninstall Pocketmoney and AppSync.
3. Reboot iPhone.
4. Reinstall Pocketmoney fom appstore.
5. Make in App purchases.
6. Restore backup.
7. Reinstall AppSync.

(Thanks to hidefguy in forums for this solution.)

3.0 screen shots of PocketMoney

December 29th, 2009

Here are a few screen shots with some of the In-App Purchases (IAP) active.

Account Balances screen with the Coffee theme active(IAP) , the Net Worth Summary chart showing (IAP), and Group By Account Type turned on in the Prefs so the section headings show the subtotals for the account types and can be collapsed. Second Balance Line is turned ON in the Prefs > Display Options.

Category Report showing the dual Pie Chart (IAP) left side is the expenses break out and the right side is the income breakdown. The Purple Theme with 16 pt bold font (IAP) is active. Also, Food has been unselected (black binder ring versus yellow when item is selected/checked) and because it is a main category the subcategories of Food:Dining and Food:Groceries have been totaled into the Food category. Also note the new information for the percentage break down in each report row and the number of items that make up each category summary.

Edit Transaction Screen with two receipts attached (IAP), in the Green Theme with the User Font set to 18 pt bold, and the Label Font 18 pt (IAP), and the display of the ID, Memo, Class, and Cleared fields has been turned off in the Prefs > Display Options > Edit Transaction.
